Hurricane Ian Aftermath: Accessing. the Damage

It’s been less than a week since Hurricane Ian made landfall in Southwest Florida and inland water levels continue to rise, flooding communities along several key waterways.

Gov. Ron DeSantis and First Lady Casey DeSantis have been traversing the state accessing the damage caused by the storm, and keeping Floridians updated on rescue efforts.

Over the weekend, Gov. DeSantis was boots on the ground, cooking hash browns for first responders at a Waffle House in Charlotte County, then traveled to North Port to see the massive flooding that was occurring.

DeSantis later held a press conference in Arcadia, Florida where the Peace River overflowed and flooded the homes and businesses that lined its banks.

The Floridian Publisher Javier Manjarres asked DeSantis about the speculation by some legacy media outlets that all local operations were stopped when he was on the ground.

DeSantis said that nothing was put on hold when he came into town.

“Don’t stop anything we want to do. Oh yeah, no, everything goes, I mean like they don't stop anything we wanna do,” said DeSantis.

DeSantis believes the effectiveness of the relief pod program is a “symptom of success,” adding that while there has been a rush of people to get the much-needed supplies, that rush has died down.

DeSantis also said that the pod that was in place in Arcadia was open, but no one was in need of the supplies when he inspected the site.

On another note, Javier tweeted out a thank you to several residents of Charlotte County who helped him get his truck out of the mud.
