Since the midterm general election is fast approaching, Democrats across the country are vying to campaign with President Joe Biden (D). However, the Rubio campaign is warning that Florida Rep. Val Demings (D) is avoiding campaign stops with the president. Saying that Rep. Demings will be “hiding in her office in Washington,” the Rubio campaign inferred that her voting record could come back to haunt her in November.

Rep. Demings was shortlisted to be President Biden’s Vice-Presidential pick, which eventually went to Vice President Kamala Harris (D).

Next week, President Biden will take a trip to Orlando for an event, which is Rep. Demings’ hometown.

However, Demings is not scheduled to appear at the event, and the Rubio campaign attributes this to the senatorial hopeful being “scared” of appearing with Biden.

“It’s very simple,” the campaign said in a message to supporters, explaining that “Demings’ record of supporting Biden’s policies is failing Florida and she doesn’t want to face the people whose lives she made worse alongside the leader of the Democratic Party.”

In a statement, Elizabeth Gregory, the communications director for the campaign, further scrutinized Demings, saying that “Demings refuses to accept responsibility for the harm she’s caused Florida.”

“Demings’ blind support of Joe Biden and the Democrats far left agenda 100% of the time has consistently made Floridians’ lives worse, and no hiding out in Washington is going to change that,” Gregory added.

Demings has taken to the campaign trail to comment on recent polls that show her candidacy gaining support, but Rubio argues that voters in November will choose him for being a more effective lawmaker in office.

The Rubio campaign is confident that Demings voting for the American Rescue Plan and for the Inflation Reduction Act will hurt the Demings campaign come election day.
