Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Angie Nixon shared that she has received an endorsement from New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in her bid for Senate.

"Angie will be an exemplary fighter for the working families of Florida," Ocasio-Cortez wrote on social media. "She did not get here by yielding to major political machines, she did it by building community power and fiercely committing to her values. That’s why I’m proud to endorse her for the U.S. Senate.”

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, a well-known progressive Democrat and member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), has represented New York's 14th District since 2019. Ocasio-Cortez is also rumored as a potential 2028 presidential candidate in some political circles.

Nixon, who represents District 13 in the Florida House of Representatives, defeated Democrat Alexander Vindman in a stunning upset to secure the Democratic nomination earlier this month.

She thanked AOC for her endorsement through social media.

"I'm honored to have the endorsement of Congresswoman @AOC and her support as we work towards a better future for Florida," Nixon wrote. "AOC is a fighter and a reminder of what's possible when you put the needs of the people first, instead of protecting the interests of the wealthy and well-connected. Florida deserves, & is ready for, the kind of leadership in the U.S. Senate that has been absent for far too long."

"Together, we're going to fight for everyone: working families, students, and communities who have been ignored for too long. This endorsement adds fuel to an already energized campaign, reinforcing that people are looking forward to real change and representation," Nixon continued. "I cannot wait to call her my colleague in November."

Like Ocasio-Cortez, Nixon is also a member of the DSA. The organization's platform includes defunding the police, open borders, expanding voting rights to include non-citizens, and packing the U.S. Supreme Court.

Nixon has also been endorsed by other popular progressive Democrats, including U.S. Reps. Maxwell Alejandro Frost (D-FL), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.), and Massachusetts U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren.

The general election is Nov. 3.
