U.S. Sen. Ashley Moody (R-FL) is letting voters know she's sent criminals to jail while her socialist opponent idealizes them as part of the agenda to get rid of cops in a campaign ad released this week.
The ad was shared on Sen. Moody's social media page.
"My husband is a police officer, and I've spent my career putting criminals behind bars. My opponent puts them on pedestals," Moody says referring to Democrat Rep. Angie Nixon.Â
Sen. Moody was Florida's attorney general from 2019 to 2025. She also served as a judge for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit Court from 2007 t0 2017 in Hillsborough County, becoming the youngest judge in Florida history (31) following her 2006 election.
The advertisement then illustrates Rep. Nixon's controversial praise of Assata Shakur, a convicted cop killer and member of Black Liberation Army (BLA). Shakur, assisted by the BLA, escaped from a New Jersey state prison in 1979 following her conviction two years prior.
Shakur eventually fled to Cuba and received political asylum from President Fidel Castro in 1984. Nixon is seen here speaking fondly about Shakur while speaking at a church.
Nixon also received backlash for having a mural of Shakur along with other Black activists at her Cafe Resistance bookstore and coffee shop in Jacksonville. Here is that exchange (via Action News Jax).
A vocal member of the Florida House, Nixon joined the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) prior to winning her U.S. Senate primary in August. The DSA's platform includes defunding the police, open borders, expanding voting rights to include non-citizens, and packing the U.S. Supreme Court.
Nixon has also been endorsed by U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a member of the DSA and rumored 2028 presidential candidate.
"She quotes cop killers, attacks law enforcement, and signed up for a socialist platform to abolish prisons and defund the police," Moody says. "To most, that's crazy. To me, it's personal."
