A new poll from Stetson University's Center for Public Opinion Research shows Representative Byron Donalds (R-19) leading in the governor's race.
Rep. Donalds will face off against Democratic candidate David Jolly on Nov. 3 for the governor's seat.
The new poll, which was conducted between Oct. 1 and 9, shows Rep. Donalds with a significant lead, despite other polls showing a closer race. The results were first published Monday.
The poll shows Donalds with 52% of those polled, compared to Jolly's 41%. The poll also found that 5% of those polled were still undecided, with 3% supporting a third-party candidate.
Similar results were found in the U.S. Senate race, with Republican incumbent Ashley Moody set to face off against Democratic candidate and state Representative Angie Nixon. Sen. Moody leads state Rep. Nixon 52% to 41%, the same margin as the governor's race. Roughly 6% of voters polled were undecided in the Senate race at the time of the poll, with 2% preferring a third-party candidate.
“Republicans continue to have an advantage in both races; the Senate race has narrowed slightly, though within the survey’s margin of error,” Kelly Smith, co-director of CPOR, said in a press release announcing the poll results. “As Election Day approaches, turnout remains an important part of the picture.”
These results are very similar to the research center's September poll findings.
Voters' feelings toward Amendment 3, which would increase the homestead exemption for property taxes, were also polled by the center.
Support for the amendment is still below the 60% threshold needed to become a constitutional amendment, with 56% in support, 21% opposed and 23% still undecided.
“Getting a majority is not enough for a constitutional amendment in Florida,” Smith said about the polling results in the press release. “With nearly a quarter of voters still unsure about each proposal, there is considerable uncertainty about how these measures will fare in November.”
