First Day at School in the Capitol

Newly-elected congressmen and congresswomen were on Capitol Hill going through freshman orientation this week, and from the looks on their faces, they look like a bunch of kids in a candy store.

Cory Mills, who won his CD 7 seat, posted pics of him grinning ear to ear on the floor of the House of Representatives (Psss! You are not allowed to take pictures on the House floor).

Jared Moskowitz and Maxwell Frost were in the Rotunda living it up with other Democratic freshmen during a dinner put on by House Democratic leadership.

This morning, the group of freshmen will pose for the class picture. Stay tuned. We will have it for you.

"Rubio Says Revamped GOP can win big in Elections" by The Floridian's Jackson Bakich—Over last weekend, Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R) joined the Ingraham Angle to discuss Florida’s midterm elections. Florida voters decidedly voted in favor of Republicans on November 8th, and Sen. Rubio says a revamped GOP will be a force to be reckoned with in upcoming elections.

"Republicans Blame Trump for Midterm Losses" by The Floridian's Jackson Bakich—Republican infighting seems to be heating up as President Donald Trump (R) takes shot at potential 2024 rivals. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) and Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin (R) have not announced their intention to run for the White House, but President Trump has already directed choice comments at both.

Greg Steube (R-FL-17), a veteran himself, appeared on Fox to discuss his Veterans' True Choice Act. The bill, first introduced in 2021, allows former service members to receive coverage from TRICARE Select, part of the Dept. of Defense. Steube tweets that "I’ll continue to fight for our veterans in Congress every step of the way. I joined @FoxFriendsFirst to discuss why it’s critical Congress pass my Veterans’ True Choice Act. "DeSantis Commits Additional $1.5 Million in Honor of FL's 1.5 Million Veterans" by The Floridian's Jackson Bakich—Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) demonstrated Florida’s obligation to serve the sunshine state’s 1.5 million veterans through “state programs and initiatives that provide resources and opportunities that help build the future success of Florida’s veterans,” while looking to be the nation’s most “veteran-friendly state.”

"Never Trumper TV Host Claims DeSantis Won by 'Gaming the System' or Racism" by The Floridian's Grayson Bakich —Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) utterly smashed Charlie Crist (D) in the midterms, a 20-point blowout that is easily the biggest win for Republicans nationwide. Part of it lies in DeSantis' popularity and smart handling of various issues. The other reason is the relative unpopularity and alienating rhetoric espoused by Crist. However, CNN political commentator Ana Navarro asserts a third, more nefarious reason, in that DeSantis somehow "gamed the system."

"Donalds Officially Announces Run for House GOP Conference Chair" by The Floridian's Grayson Bakich —Though the midterms are over in Florida, bringing with it an astounding victory for Republicans, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL-19) is just getting started. In a recent tweet, Donalds officially announces his intention to run for GOP House Conference Chairman. He says in his tweet that he is "championing Conservative Principles and Ushering In a New Republican Perspective to GOP House Leadership. I have an announcement."

"Rick Scott Blasts Biden for October Inflation Numbers" by The Floridian's Jackson Bakich —At the beginning of every month, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) releases the numbers concerning the economy’s growth (or lack thereof). More often than not, Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) a member of the Senate Budget Committee and the Chairman of the National Republican Senate Committee, does not have good things to say the most recent numbers that have come out during President Joe Biden’s (D) time in office.

"NRSC Chairman Scott Sends Out Memo to Help Herschel in Runoff" by The Floridian's Jackson Bakich —With the 2022 midterms slowly coming to a close, the nation is still in store for a dramatic ending. Florida’s neighbor to the north, Georgia, is once again going to have the eyes of the country glued to TV screens, similar to the end of the 2020 election. U.S. Senator and Chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) alongside Herschel Walker (R) sent out a memo concerning the runoff in the Peach State.

"Gaetz Blisters Republican Leadership, Calls Them a 'McFailure'" by The Floridian's Grayson Bakich —As Republicans around the nation process the head-scratching results given to them on election night, some are calling into question Republican leadership. In Florida, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) isn't sold on current House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) being voted in as Speaker of the House, if Republicans win the majority in the lower chamber.

"Rubio Defeats Demings, Retains Senate Seat" by The Floridian's Jackson Bakich—The polls have closed, and the U.S. Senate race has been called in favor of Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) with a solid percentage total. Rep. Val Demings (D-FL) was looking to flip a Senate seat in favor of the Democrats, as they are attempting to maintain their majority in the chamber. This is Rubio’s 3rd time winning this seat

"Cory Mills Flips Key Congressional Seat in Florida" by The Floridian's Javier Manjarres—The congressional race between combat veteran Cory Mills and Florida Democratic Party Vice Chairwoman Karen Green was over before it even started the moment the primary election was over.

The race has been between a staunch liberal and a staunch conservative, with Luna backed by former President Donald Trump and Lynn receiving the endorsement of former President Barack Obama, although Lynn describes himself as "moderate."

"Laurel Lee Defeats Alan Cohn, Will Serve in House" by The Floridian's Jackson Bakich—In Florida’s 15th Congressional District, Laurel Lee (R-FL) has defeated Alan Cohn (D) and will serve in the United States House of Representatives. Lee was the former Secretary of State appointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL).

"Aaron Bean Defeats LaShonda Holloway, Will Serve in U.S. House" by The Floridian's Jackson Bakich—In Florida’s 4th Congressional District, Aaron Bean (R-FL) has defeated LaShonda Holloway (D) and will serve in the United States House of Representatives. Bean had served in the Florida state legislature for 8 years prior to running for this seat.

"President Trump Rallies For Rubio in Miami, Sets the Stage for Reelection Bid" by The Floridian's Javier Manjarres–MIAMI—As expected at one of his trademark campaign rallies, thousands of Trump faithful came to see former President Donald Trump campaign for Senator Marco Rubio just days before the 2022 midterm elections.

"Biden's $1 Billion in Humanitarian Aid to Afghanistan 'Unaccounted' For" by The Floridian's Jim McCool—The first year of Biden's presidency saw the infamously disastrous pull-out of US troops from Afghanistan. Now the issue is re-surging as the Biden Administration has given $1 Billion to the Taliban-controlled government, and US agencies are refusing to explain how the money was spent.

"Mast Continues Slamming Biden's War on Domestic Energy" by The Floridian's Grayson Bakich—The continued kneecapping of the American energy industry by the Biden Administration is an equally-hammered on talking point by Republicans. Florida Republicans such as Rep. Kat Cammack (R-FL-3) and Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R-FL-26) have been easily some of the most vociferous, and Rep. "Rick Scott Calls Out Democrat's Policies on Crime" by The Floridian's Jackson Bakich—Alongside inflation, one of the main issues this election cycle has been crime. Whether it has been at the border or the negation of cash bail, Republicans around the nation have been calling out Democrats for their intention to legislate loose-on-crime policies. Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) is one of those Republicans. He sent out a tweet regarding this notion on Saturday.

While Crist has praised the president, welcoming his endorsement, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) has warned that this will only hurt the Crist campaign. With political pundits warning of a “red wave,” DeSantis says “Joe Biden and Charlie Crist are two peas in a pod.”
