And Then There Were Three

JUICE—According to part-time Tallahassee reporter (kidding) and Orlando-area legislator, Rep. Carlos Guillermo Smith (D), the 2022 Democratic gubernatorial primary race has “fundamentally changed” with the entrance of State Sen. Annette Taddeo (D), the seemingly true Progressive in the race.

Senator Taddeo (finally, finally) entered the race after months of speculation as the Miami legislator spoke to different statewide groups, donors, tossed up some Arepas con queso, all while mulling over the decision to challenge Rep. Charlie Crist and Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried.

National Republicans like the Republican Gubernatorial Association (RGA) were quick to pounce on Taddeo’s announcement, taking a couple of major league swipes at Taddeo’s former running mate, and casting shade on the beleaguered Florida Democratic Party.

“Florida Democrats in the gubernatorial primary were already are a disaster, and adding a third candidate to the mix will surely make things even worse for them,” said RGA spokesperson Joanna Rodriguez. “Annette Taddeo, Nikki Fried, and Charlie Crist are in a race to the left to shore up the Democratic base. As Florida Democrats continue to fight with each other, they’re making the case all on their own how out of touch they are with a majority of Floridians.” READ MORE
