Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried lost her primary election to Rep. Charlie Crist, but instead of withering away into the political shadows, Fried is hell-bent on trying to make Gov. Ron DeSantis’s life miserable by stepping up to lead the embattled Florida Democratic Party in cheer.
Fried has been out campaigning for Crist and her political party, which is commendable and a smart move, if she wants to keep her future hopes of running for elected office alive.
Yes, we are sure Fried will run again, somewhere.
Even though she lost her race, Fried was still the only Democrat since Alex Sink to win a statewide race.
That means something.
“I didn’t fight DeSantis tooth and nail for the last four years to win a primary. I did it to save our state. And I won’t back down now, or ever,” stated Fried.
“Tooth and Nail?”
Probably not, but Fried did make an effort to counter DeSantis on every issue. She also called DeSantis an extremist and likened him to Dictators Nicolas Maduro and Fidel Castro.
Now, Fried must campaign for a real, apparent extremist, Lt. Governor pick Kathy Hernandez-Mats, who checks off all the boxes for being one of the most Progressive Democrats that will be on the November ballot.
It will interesting to see how Fried navigates showing support for Hernandez-Mats.
Gov. DeSantis is sitting on a mountain of cash and most Floridians approve of the way he has run Florida, but while polls and talking heads believe he is going to defeat Crist, could his biggest asset help keep Democrat momentum at bay?
Enter Casey DeSantis.
