DeSantis Suffers Big Political Losses
Tuesday brought a mixed bag of political wins and losses for Gov. Ron DeSantis.In the morning, Gov. DeSantis announced that he was sending the Florida National Guard and law enforcement to defend the Texas border with Mexico.
DeSantis also signed anti-Human trafficking legislation into law during a press conference, and picked up the endorsements of House Speaker Paul Renner and Senate President Kathleen Passidomo,
But later in the day and in theearly evening, DeSantis was dealt two huge political blows.
First, the DeSantis-endorsed Republican nominee for mayor in the City of Jacksonville gubernatorial contest, Daniel Davis, lost his race to Democrat challenger Donna Deegan.
Deegan flipped the Republican-controlled seat held by former Republican Mayor Lenny Curry.
What’s worse, DeSantis’s endorsed candidate for the GOP gubernatorial primary race in Kentucky, Kelly Croft, was beaten by Trump-endorsed Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron.
Ouch!
There isn’t much spin Republicans in Florida can put on their loss in Jacksonville other than they were outperformed by Nikki Fried’s Florida Democratic Party.
As you can imagine, Democratic lawmakers and activists saw this win as their Rocky Balboa moment and will surely use the victory to try to spur fundraising and hope moving forward to 2024.
While winning in 2024 will be a heavy lift for Democrats, Republicans need to have a “Come to Jesus Moment” and reassess their effort campaign efforts.
