Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) and Representative Chip Roy (R-TX) have come together to introduce the Public Service Reform Act, which looks to make all federal workers “at-will employees [to] ensure faithful service to the American people.”

According to the Rep. Roy press release, “the last administration faced unprecedented resistance from an entrenched federal bureaucracy, protected by layers and layers of red tape, dedicated to subverting our constitutional order.”

Moreover, the legislators believe that many bureaucrats put their personal party politics above their job description. This bill would allow the Commander-in-Chief to make it easier to remove those working for the federal government who go “rogue.”

“I’ve spent my life leading organizations of every shape and size. Whether running a small donut shop, America’s largest health care company, or the great state of Florida, I know from firsthand experience the importance of having an effective and dedicated team that share a common mission,” stated Sen. Scott.

“It’s clear that the bureaucracy of the federal government is both a waste of taxpayer dollars and inefficient. Red tape and bloated federal agencies constantly slow down progress and hamper American innovation. It’s time to change Washington so it actually work for the American people. The Public Service Reform Act will boost accountability and responsiveness across the federal government by making all executive branch employees at-will," said Sen. Scott

Rep. Roy would go on to mention that “It is far past time to reinstate accountability to the people for the federal bureaucracy by requiring that like any private sector employee, federal workers can be removed from their positions. Notwithstanding the majority of federal workers who faithfully serve, especially our law enforcement personnel, we should not allow a wall of red tape to shield those engaged in noncompliance with the law and brazen political partisanship. Federal employees should keep their jobs based on merit, just like the people they serve."

Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO) is the co-sponsor for Sen. Scott’s version of the bill.

Co-sponsors in the House include Representatives Erin Houchin (R-IN), Andy Ogles (R-TN), Troy Nehls (R-TX), Tom McClintock (R-CA), Jeff Duncan (R-SC), Lauren Boebert (R-CO), Warren Davidson (R-OH), Dan Bishop (R-NC), Bob Good (R-VA), Harriet Hageman (R-WY), and Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL-13).
