Border Crisis Continues to Divide Americans

With thousands of illegal immigrants continuing to flood the U.S. southern border as a result of recently lax immigration policies, House Republicans in Congress have introduced a legislative measure to help calm the migrant surge.

House Democrats are calling the “MAGA Homeland Insecurity bill” nothing more than a legislative measure that simply imprisons families and criminalizes migrants.

“The MAGA Homeland Insecurity bill would criminalize DREAMers and TPS holders, imprison families indefinitely, and divert local police from keeping our towns safe. That's why I led 200+ Dems in standing up against toxic, anti-immigrant riders that do not belong on the House floor,” stated Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz on the floor of the House of Representatives.

During her address this week, Rep. Wasserman Schultz said that migrants from the countries of Venezuela, Cuba, and Haiti, were “like family” to her, arguing that both Republicans and Democrats were unhappy with the current Biden immigration system.

“So why not work towards a bipartisan plan that balances legal pathways with unbiased enforcement? Because the secret is out. Republicans don't want a solution, they want more chaos and more heartbreak. They want more desperate people trying their luck against the Rio Grande or the Florida straits instead of safely applying online from home and coming through a port of entry the pain,” added Rep. Wasserman Schultz.

Wasserman Schultz is right.

According to the Biden administration, Migrants cannot apply for asylum status online and must do so in person or by mail.

This is been a common practice for years. All of the past administrations—Bush, Obama, Clinton, Trump—have had this practice in place.

Republicans are taking a hard stance and compromise on this issue appears to be a pipedream.

Until the Biden administration contains the out-of-control border crisis, the divided U.S. Congress will not come together to address this issue.

Recent polling shows that Americans feel President Biden has not done enough (or anything) to stem the flow of illegal immigrants at the southern border.
