Florida Rep. Mike Waltz (R) has penned an op-ed for Fox News, calling on Europe to step up regarding the war between Ukraine and Russia. The war has been a controversial topic for Republicans as they have long argued that Europe should be providing more foreign aid to assist Ukraine. In the op-ed, Waltz called on President Joe Biden (D) to clarify his strategy in Ukraine.

Republicans have criticized the Biden administration, arguing that it’s politicizing funding for Ukraine. This has resulted in lawmakers calling on congressional leaders to separate funding for Ukraine from FEMA funding. Moreover, lawmakers like Rep. Waltz have long argued that Europe is not providing the necessary funds that they should be providing to help Ukraine.

In the op-ed, Waltz notes that most Americans are sympathetic to Ukraine, understanding that Russian President Vladimir Putin is looking to recreate the Soviet Union.

“If Putin is successful in Ukraine, he won’t stop until he involves NATO countries, and the United States will be treaty obligated to send American troops to fight,” Waltz adds, writing that “doing nothing in the face of aggression is how World War III will eventually start.”

Waltz takes issue with President Biden, writing that he “has not been a good-faith partner,” explaining that “the Biden administration has neither explained the American objective in Ukraine nor his strategy to achieve it.”

As a result, Waltz calls on the president to provide concrete guidelines regarding the war in Ukraine if he intends on the United States continuing to provide funding.

“Will American military spending continue until Ukraine has pushed Russia back to its prewar boundaries? Its pre-2014 boundaries? Or until the Putin regime collapse?” Waltz questions.

“We don’t know because Biden refuses to tell us. ‘As long as it takes’ is a slogan, not a strategy.”
