It's Trump vs DeSantis, but how Long Will That Last?

Governor Ron DeSantis and his presidential campaign have been trying to frame the 2024 Republican presidential primary contest as a two man race between him and former President Donald Trump.

Since announcing his candidacy in late May, Gov. DeSantis began pushing the Trump vs DeSantis-only narrative, but after a few campaign reboots, and slumping poll numbers, it looks as if the race has boiled down to two man race between Trump from 2020 and the newer 2024 version of the former president.

The latest Wall Street Journal poll shows that Americans feel Trump would do a better job than President Joe Biden, as well as showing that DeSantis has dipped a bit more among likely voters.

The CNN poll that came out yesterday has DeSantis rising 5 percentage points from the WSJ poll, and Trump dropping 7 points.

DeSantis appears to clearly take away from Trump, but will this one poll trend continue?

Over that past 6 public opinion polls taken after the first Republican presidential debate in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, DeSantis poll numbers have ranged from 13-18 points.

Trump's national poll numbers have ranged from 52-60 points. Support for Trump among voting Republicans in all the early voting states is also extremely high.

Iowa: Trump leads DeSantis by an average of 26 points

New Hampshire: Trump leads DeSantis by an average of 30 points

South Carolina: Trump leads DeSantis by an average of 30 points
