Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Tina Descovich, co-founder of the pro-parental rights group Moms for Liberty, to the Florida Commission on Ethics today.
"The Florida Ethics Commission is charged with serving as the guardian of the standards of conduct for public officers and employees as well as safeguarding public trust," said Descovich. "It will be a privilege to serve the state I love as a member of this commission."

"Descovich is the Co-Founder of Moms for Liberty. She was previously elected to the School Board of Brevard County in 2016 and served as the President of the Florida Coalition of School Board Members," according to the Governor's office. "Descovich earned her bachelor’s degree in public relations from Valdosta State University."
On their website, Moms for Liberty describe themselves as "Moms, Dads, Grands, Aunts, Uncles, Friends."
"Moms for Liberty welcomes all that have a desire to stand up for parental rights at all levels of government. Our founders are Tiffany and Tina, moms on a mission to stoke the fires of liberty. As former school board members, they witnessed how short-sighted and destructive policies directly hurt children and families. Now they are using their first-hand knowledge and experience to unite parents who are ready to fight those that stand in the way of liberty," the website states.
DeSantis regularly features Moms for Liberty members at his press conferences in regard to parental rights. He spoke at their annual convention earlier this year.
Moms for Liberty endured a smear campaign when they were placed on the Southern Poverty Law Center's famous black list, labeled an "antigovernment extremist group". The SPLC says Moms for Liberty, "advocate for the abolition of the Department of Education, advance a conspiracy propaganda, and spread hateful imagery and rhetoric against the LGBTQ community."
"Two-thirds of Americans think the public education system is on the wrong track today," Moms for Liberty replied in a statement. "That is why our organization is devoted to empowering parents to be a part of their child's public school education."
"Florida served as the birthplace of the parents’ revolution — the grassroots uprising of moms and dads all across the country, led by Moms for Liberty, who are beating back the enemies of the American family," said DeSantis at the convention. "While other states were working to grind parents down, we lifted them up. This election is a referendum on the failures of the ideology that is driving the woke agenda in school districts across the country. Moms are motivated like never before. 2024 will be the year that parents fought back."
