Bipartisanship in Congress Does Exist

It might not appear so, but Congressional Democrats and Republicans do get along sometimes. Sometimes.

The one issue that Florida’s Congressional Delegation is on the same page with is the environment.

All of the members are against offshore oil drilling off of Florida and are also completely behind in making sure that Florida’s critical water ecosystems are cleaned up and preserved.

Everyone from Reps. Mario Diaz-Balart (R), Greg Steube, Brian Mast, Kathy Castor, Val Demings, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Stephanie Murphy, and Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott, all have a green thumb. READ MORE

Not all House Progressives Will Become ‘Squadsters’

Freshman Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D) was just sworn in and she’s already eagerly motoring around the Capitol, but has refused to commit to joining the Progressive ‘Squad’ led by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D).

The Floridian spoke to Rep. Cherfilus-McCormick or Rep. SCM, this week in Washington and she said that she has been welcomed with open arms by both Republicans and Democrats.

During our discussion, Rep. Byron Donalds (R) stopped by and introduced himself. But no less than a few minutes into the interaction, Rep. SCM showed that she will be able to hold her own against the most seasoned lawmakers.

Rep.SCM began to playfully tease Rep. Donalds about his party’s current status in the House. Rep. Donalds responded back, telling her that she needed to get ready for a GOP majority after this year’s election.

Judge Brad Thomas of the 1st District Court of Appeal wrote an 11-page concurring opinion that took aim at the Supreme Court’s 1964 New York Times v. Sullivan ruling, which, in part, required that public officials prove “actual malice” to prevail in defamation lawsuits.
