WASHINGTON—Republicans members of Congress, including Florida Reps. Brian Mast, Mario Diaz-Balart, and Michael Waltz have been railing against the soon-to-be-voted-on COMPETES Act, accusing House Democrats of writing a bill to protect the U.S. against China, but actually helps the Chinese.

The COMPETES Act was drafted to help the U.S. compete with China and other countries so Americans do not fall back when It comes down to the design and manufacturing of semiconductors.

In an interview with The Floridian, Rep. Mast said that the U.S. needed to use military or “kinetic” to disable Chinese satellites that are being used to steal American intellectual properties and terrorize the nation as a whole.

“If I’ m being attacked by a knife, then I’m going to try to take out that knife or anything else they are attacking me with,” said Rep. Mast. If China, the Communist Party of China— their government— is attacking us through their satellites, then we need to take out those satellites. If they are attacking us through this apparatus of infrastructure, then we need to take out that apparatus of infrastructure.”

When we asked if he was referring to the U.S. using military action against China, Mast said that he “would call it kinetic action, and  “not necessarily military.”

But if that is the apparatus that, you, China, Communist Party as a government are using to bring terrorism against the United States of America, our companies, our individuals, our government, well then we’re going to take out that apparatus however we do that,” added Mast.

Mast concluded by saying that the COMPETES Act, which would receive $51 million of taxpayer dollars, “through its support of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is actually helping china compete better against us.”
