Boca Raton Mayoral candidate Mike Liebelson is holding a slight edge over opponent Andy Thomson in the race to become the City's next mayor, according to an internal poll released by the Mike Liebelson for Boca Raton Mayor campaign this week.
Candidate Fran Nachlas is in a distant third place.
Here are the results from the internal poll:
- Mike Liebelson: 32%
- Andy Thomson: 30%
- Fran Nachlas: 15%
- Unsure: 23%
According to the poll, Liebelson, a political outsider and first-time candidate, is the only mayoral candidate with a net positive rating over the field (+12). Thompson is slightly underwater (-3), and Nachlas is in the deep end at (-25).
Specific results of candidate favorability are:
- Mike Liebelson: 35%-23%
- Andy Thomson: 35%-38%
- Fran Nachlas: 20%-34%
Save Boca, a grassroots political organization dedicated to protecting and preserving Boca Raton's parks and public land, held a net positive of +36 (62%-26).
The poll also found 61% of voters believe Boca Raton is headed in the wrong direction. Only 19% believe it's headed in the right direction, while 20% remain unsure.
On that note, Liebelson holds a 15% lead over Thomson (45% to 30%), with Nachlas at just 4%.
“Our campaign is showing clear momentum, and the energy on the ground in Boca supports what the polling reflects: voters want leaders who aren’t beholden to developers and I’m the best candidate to deliver that change,” Liebelson said.
Liebelson, Thomson, and Nachlas are looking to replace Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer, who is term-limited and cannot seek reelection. Singer has been the mayor since 2018.
Singer is currently challenging several candidates for the Republican nomination in Florida's 23rd Congressional District, where the winner will likely face incumbent Democratic Rep. Jared Moskowitz.
The office of the mayor is a nonpartisan position. The Boca Raton mayoral election is on March 10.
Polling was conducted by 315 likely Boca Raton city voters from March 2nd to 4th, with a margin of error of +/- 5.6 at a 95% confidence interval.
