President Donald Trump announced that his administration will issue $500 rebate checks to roughly 1 million Americans who were overcharged under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) or Obamacare.
“Our administration has discovered that under ‘Sleepy Joe Biden,’ American households buying health insurance through the Obamacare exchange – which is a disaster – and the Healthcare.gov were massively overcharged,” President Trump stated.
Trump Claims Biden Administration Kept The Extra Funds
According to President Trump, Americans were forced to pay at least $500 million in “excessive fees.”
President Trump also accused the previous Biden administration of knowing about the extra cost, arguing that they studied it and kept the funds instead of refunding them.
“The big insurance companies own the Democrats," President Trump claimed, accusing Democrats of solely working "to protect big insurance companies."
Nearly 1 Million Across 30 States Will Receive Checks
“Our administration is doing the right thing and giving the money back to the people who were wrongly ripped off,” President Trump asserted.
Nearly 1 million Americans across 30 states will receive these checks at their home address, covering the entire increase in overpaid fees for most Americans.
Trump Urges Congress To Pass "Great Healthcare Plan"
In his announcement, President Trump also called on Congress to pass “The Great Healthcare Plan.”
According to the White House, it is a “comprehensive plan to lower drug prices, lower insurance premiums, hold big insurance companies accountable, and maximize price transparency.”
“We will stop all payments to big insurance and give the money directly to the people, who will then be able to buy better healthcare at a much lower cost and keep the money and keep the difference,” President Trump asserted.
The Fact Sheet explains that the plan will lower prices by authorizing more over-the-counter medicines and lowering prescription drug prices.
It will also lower insurance premiums by funding a cost-sharing reduction program, which would save taxpayers at least $36 billion.
