Democratic gubernatorial candidate David Jolly shared that he has received an endorsement from Miami Mayor Eileen Higgins for Florida governor through a social media post today.
Higgins became Miami's first Democratic mayor since 1997 after winning the city's mayoral runoff election by 18 points over Republican challenger Emilio Gonzalez in Dec. 2025. She was also the first woman elected mayor of Miami in the city's nearly 130-year history.
"David Jolly has shown, time and again, that he puts people over politics," Higgins said. "He listens. He shows up. And he's not afraid to build a coalition to get things done – which is exactly the kind of leadership our state needs right now. I'm proud to endorse David Jolly for Governor, and I'm confident he'll bring the same integrity and independence to Tallahassee that he's shown throughout his career."
Mayor Higgins' endorsement is likely a boost for Jolly as Democrats look to take back Miami-Dade County with Miami as its principal city. Gov. Ron DeSantis won Miami-Dade against Democrat Charlie Christ with over 55% of the vote in the 2022 gubernatorial race.
President Donald Trump also won the county with over 55% of the vote against Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.
Jolly thanked Higgins for her endorsement.
"I’m proud to have the endorsement of Miami Mayor Eileen Higgins," Jolly wrote. "Mayor Higgins knows that Florida needs leaders who put people over politics, bring people together, and stay focused on getting things done. I’m grateful for her support and excited to work together to build a better future for every Florida family."
Mayor Higgins' endorsement follows several others around the county for Jolly, including Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and Shevrin "Shev" Jones (D-Miami Gardens). Jolly has also been endorsed by the Florida AFL-CIO and the Florida Education Association, and the Democratic Hispanic Caucus of Florida earlier this month.
The general election is Nov. 3.
