State of the State to State of the Union?

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will be delivering his annual State of the State address at around 11 am on Tuesday, March 7th.

It is expected that Gov. DeSantis’s speech will highlight his accomplishments as Governor, point to what he has directed the Republican-led Florida Legislature to do in the upcoming 2023 legislative session, and offer a heavy dose of criticism against the Biden administration as he prepares to launch his presidential campaign.

We are hearing that DeSantis’s presidential announcement could come as early as the first week of May.

DeSantis will be traveling to Iowa later this week and is said to be planning trips to South Carolina and New Hampshire.

The first Republican Presidential debate is slated for August, so DeSantis has a very heavy lift before him in the months before he stands toe to toe on the debate stage with former President Donald Trump.

The first debate between DeSantis and President Trump could be the most watched event in recent memory. All eyeballs will be glued to TV sets across the nation to see what many expect will be an epic Republican cage match debate.

Recent polls have Trump way ahead of DeSantis, and there is growing sentiment around the state of Florida that Republican voters are a bit perplexed at why DeSantis would run for president 6 months after being reelected governor.

“We elected him governor to continue running our state. Why would he just get up and immediately run for president when there is so much he promised and said he would do for Florida,” stated on Republican voter who asked that The Floridian not use her name in any story or posting.

This spring is the calm before the political storm that will coincide with the 2023 Hurricane season.

Batten down the hatches.

Oh, He’s Running

In case anyone thought he wasn’t running, DeSantis released a campaign ad channeling former President Ronald Reagan.

The ad aired shortly after DeSantis concluded his speech at the Reagan library in Simi Valley, California, just a few miles away from where The Floridian Publisher Javier Manjarres smacked a 250 ft homerun to Left field during a Little League Allstar game.

Manjarres said that the homerun was a monstrous Mark McGwire-like blast but take into consideration that he was barely 11 years old. READ MORE

Is Lowering the age to buy a gun Smart?

A couple of Florida legislators have introduced a legislative measure to drop the age to buy a rifle from 21 to 18.

Is this really smart?

Many pro-gun advocates say that many 18-year-olds join the U.S. Military and are trained to shoot an M16 rifle, so why not afford them the opportunity to buy a similar weapon? READ MORE
