The pro-Transgender sex reassignment lobby, including former Rep. Carlos Guillermo Smith (D), have come out in force to express their disdain against State Senator Clay Yarborough’s Treatments for Sex Reassignment (SB 254) measure file last Friday.

Smith asserted that Sen. Yarborough’s bill tells courts to “SEIZE TRANS CHILDREN AWAY from their supportive parent,” if those parents provide children with “life-saving care?”

A new FL bill will tell courts to SEIZE TRANS CHILDREN AWAY from their supportive parents if those parents provide or are “at risk” of providing them life-saving care. Parents would be charged with felonies + thrown in prison. This is fascist,” stated Smith.

Aside from Smith’s dramatic description of the bill, the actual measure calls for “granting courts of this state temporary emergency jurisdiction over children present in this state if they are at risk of or are being subjected to the provision of sex-reassignment prescriptions or procedures.”

Yarborough’s bill appears to be a straightforward effort to protect minor children from parents who look to change their sexual identity through sex-reassignment prescriptions or surgical procedures.

In addition, the bill states that any health care practitioner arrested for “committing or attempting” to prescribe, administer, or perform “sex-reassignment prescriptions or procedures for a patient younger than 18 years of age,” will have their license suspended.

It also appears that the suspension extends to other states, where the healthcare practitioner practice medicine outside of Florida.

The department shall issue an emergency order suspending the license of any health care practitioner who is arrested for committing or attempting, soliciting, or conspiring to commit any act that would constitute a violation of any of the following criminal offenses in this state or similar offenses in other jurisdiction,” states the bill.

This bill, if passed and signed into law, would also affect large healthcare institutions like the University of Miami Health System which currently performs sex-reassignment surgeries for minors.
