Democratic Losses Keep Piling Up

Florida Democratic Party Chairwoman Nikki Fried’s newly-minted chairmanship has been greeted with more election losses by the ongoing DeSantis Republican wave.

The latest losses really stung Florida Democrats considering that they occurred in Democratic-heavy municipal seats.

“Big wins and we’ll take a moment to celebrate the hard work done by the grassroots, but there is still more work to be done to fire every Democrat at every level of government in Florida and to ensure that their radical and failed ideologies are eradicated from our great state,” stated Christian Ziegler, Florida GOP Chairman

City of Ocoee Mayor Rusty Johnson won reelection as did commissioners Scott Kennedy and Richard Firstner.

In Broward County, the bastion of liberalism in the state, Republican John Brodie won his city commissioner race in the city of Coconut Creek.

 

Florida Legislature on the Move

The Republican-led state legislature is pushing Gov. Ron DeSantis’s legislative agenda at a fever pitch.

The relationship Gov. DeSantis and the legislature have this year is seamless in comparison to last year when the Governor and then-Senate President Wilton Simpson appeared at odds over a few issues.

The worst kept secret in Tallahassee at the time was that DeSantis was not happy with Simpson.

Simpson apologist can save their morning phone calls to us complaining about our assessment.

A recent public opinion poll conducted by The Floridian in Miami-Dade County shows Gov. DeSantis defeating President Biden in a hypothetical general election showdown.

"Senators Seek to Prevent Confederacy era Monument Removal" by News Service of Florida—TALLAHASSEE --- Local governments would be blocked from removing historic monuments from public locations and could face lawsuits, under a controversial proposal that started to advance Wednesday in the Florida Senate.

"Florida Senators Back Immigration Crackdown Plan" by The Floridian's Javier Manjarres—TALLAHASSEE — A key Florida Senate panel on Wednesday approved a measure aimed at expanding Gov. Ron DeSantis’ crackdown on illegal immigration, drawing pushback from opponents who called it an attack on the state’s migrant community.

"Senate Panel Targets Treatments for Transgender Kids" by News Service of Florida—TALLAHASSEE — Judges could consider parents’ objections to medical treatments such as puberty blockers when modifying or deciding custody agreements for transgender children, under a measure approved Monday by a Senate committee.

"DeSantis's Florida Legislature Looks to Scrap Rick Scott's Gun Buying Restriction" by The Floridian's Javier Manjarres and NSF—TALLAHASSEE — With backing from Speaker Paul Renner, a House panel on Monday approved a bill that would lower the minimum age from 21 to 18 to buy rifles and other long guns in Florida, and would scrap the part of the gun law former Gov. Rick Scott signed 5 years ago.
