Embattled Florida Democrat Party Chides Roy's Endorsement of DeSantis

It was only a matter of time before Florida Democrats chimed in on the recent endorsement of Gov. Ron DeSantis for President by Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX).

In a press release, the embattled Florida Democratic Party, which finds itself at a 440,000 voter registration deficit to the Florida Republicans, referred to Rep. Roy as a “fellow MAGA extremist” and member of the House Freedom Caucus, which Gov. DeSantis helped organize as a member of the House of Representatives.

Much like their messaging over the past couple of election cycles, Florida Democrats appear to struggle to frame a message that draws shade over Rep. Roy's endorsement.

Here is the “record of extremism” they are going after Roy on:

  • Defending the profits of Big Pharma CEOs and proclaiming that he hopes, “they make a lot more!”.
  • Joining the House Republicans who announced plans to repeal the Inflation Reduction Act as soon as Republicans won the House majority, even though doing so could raise health care costs for Americans across the country.
  • Refusing to support a budget that DID NOT include cuts to Social Security and Medicare.
  • Proudly supporting Texas’s extreme abortion ban that does not include any exceptions for victims of rape and incest.

Roy’s endorsement of Gov. DeSantis was straightforward.

"The next President of the United States must be a vibrant and energetic leader with the faith, vision, and courage to chart a new course.   America needs a leader who will truly defend her and empower the people against the destructive force of unrestrained government and corporate excess, profligate spending, and woke cultural indoctrination. That leader is Florida Governor Ron DeSantis,” stated Roy.

Roy’s endorsement of a probably DeSantis presidential campaign adds to the growing potential presidential divide between the President Donald Trump wing of the Republican Party and supporters of Gov. DeSantis.

Reps. Andy Biggs and Ronny Jackson have already come out in support of President Trump.

Several members of the Republican congressional caucus have told The Floridian that while they support Gov. DeSantis and his efforts in Florida, they believe Trump has the advantage.

In the same breath, the same members said they would stay out of the primary for as long as possible, signaling that their support could go either way.
