The tragic school shooting at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida should have been prevented if the glaring warning signs were addressed by school officials and law enforcement, but unfortunately, these signs were ignored and 17 teachers and students were lost.

Shortly after the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) arrested Scot Peterson, the ex-Marjorie Stoneman Douglass High School resource officer on 11-counts related to his ‘inaction’ during the shooting that left 17 students and teachers dead, Sen. Rick Scott (R) said he was glad to see the results of an investigation he first initiated as governor.

TALLAHASSEE --- Scot Peterson, the former Broward County school-resource officer who was forced to retire after he did not confront the gunman in last year’s Parkland school massacre, was arrested Tuesday on 11 charges related to his inaction.

TALLAHASSEE --- A little more than a year ago, the idea of allowing armed teachers in classrooms nearly scuttled school-safety legislation hurriedly crafted in the wake of the horrific mass shooting at a Parkland high school that left 17 students and staff members dead.
