Businessman and U.S. Marine veteran Casey Askar has landed the endorsement of Rep. Gus Bilirakis (R) in his Republican primary race in Florida's 22nd Congressional District. Rep. Bilirakis' endorsement of Askar is significant considering that he is the first member of the U.S. Congress to weigh in on this primary race, a race that the White House and the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) are both closely watching.
"As President Trump continues to press forward with his America First Agenda to preserve our way of life, we must elect true conservatives like U.S. Marine veteran Casey Askar to the U.S. Congress," said Rep. Bilirakis. "Casey is answering the call to serve again. He is an American success story who has used his abilities to create jobs and help his fellow Americans. I stand with him in his run for Congress.”
It makes sense that Bilirakis backed Askar, considering he is one of President Donald Trump's go-to men when it comes to anything that is Veterans Affairs. Askar, as we just mentioned, is a veteran.
"We are honored to have received the full support of one of the effective and conservative lawmakers in the U.S.Congress, Rep. Gus Bilirakis, and look forward to working alongside him to continue President Trump's efforts to help our veterans and bring hope and economic prosperity to all Americans," said Askar.
When asked if he would self-fund his congressional campaign, Askar recently told interested political parties in Washington, D.C., that he would inject "whatever it takes" to win the race.
Askar announced his congressional campaign about two weeks ago, and when he did, he was running against Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D) in the general election, but that cash flow opportunity to fundraise off the fact the he would be running against a Democratic member of Congress that national Republicans have been trying to defeat for years.
Rep.Wasserman Schultz jumped ship in CD 22 and is now running in CD 20 because that district is considered to be a very safe Democratic district, while CD 22 leans Republican.
Before he will be able to face whoever the Democratic congressional nominee will be, Askar must first win his primary election.
In this Republican primary race, Askar will face off with Michael Carbonaro, David Burck, Deborah Adeimy, and probably Keiser University Vice Chancellor, Belinda Keiser.
Keiser, a big name in Florida politics, officially filed to run for Congress, but has not announced her intentions to run.
