In a scathing X post over the weekend, Representative Randy Fine, R-Florida, called state Representative and Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate Angie Nixon (D-Jacksonville) a "full-blown communist" before calling her "uniquely stupid."
Rep. Nixon gained attention after protesting the mid-decade redrawing of Florida's using congressional maps with a megaphone on the House floor in April, for which she was reprimanded by the ethics committee.

Rep. Nixon's upset win against establishment Democrat Alex Vindman in last week's Democratic primary for Florida's U.S. Senate seat is part of a wave of Democratic Socialist wins in primaries across the country.
Rep. Nixon joined the Democratic Socialists of America in June, joining the ranks of well-known Democrats like Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Independent socialist Senator Bernie Sanders also celebrated Nixon's win.
She will face off against incumbent Republican Senator Ashley Moody, who was appointed in January 2025 by Governor Ron DeSantis to serve out the remainder of Marco Rubio's term after he left to become secretary of state.
Rep. Fine reposted a Newsmax clip of him speaking about the U.S. Senate race as part of the X post.
"I had the distinct displeasure of having to serve with Angie Nixon when I was in the Florida House, and she's a uniquely unintelligent person," he said in the clip, adding he is not saying so to be mean. "The things that she believes are just moronic."
In the same clip, and the accompanying X post, Fine praised Sen. Moody and celebrated her win on primary night.
"Ashley will clean the clock with her," he said in the clip.
Moody garnered almost 80% of the votes in her primary against three other candidates, with Nixon clutching a much tighter win with 56% of the votes.
"I look forward to watching Angie get destroyed at the ballot box in November," he wrote in the post's caption. "We will never allow the communists to take control of Florida."
