The 2026 midterm elections have Democrats hoping to defeat Republicans and regain control of Congress, but national Republicans have other plans, and now, businessman and former congressional candidate Casey Askar, a U.S. Marine veteran, has announced his run for the U.S. House of Representatives in Florida's 22nd Congressional District.

Askar will look to challenge Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

After Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed the new congressional redistricting maps into law, Democrats found themselves at the short end of the political stick. Rep. Wasserman Schultz has been all but drawn out of her district and is strongly considering running in the 20th district.

It's important to point out that during the 2024 presidential election, Askar helped President Donald Trump turn out a key voting bloc in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan. President Trump won Michigan, and the turnout in the areas Askar helped deliver saw a big bump in voter turnout.

In his announcement, Askar takes a swipe at Rep. Wasserman Schultz, calling her a "destructive progressive and socialist-minded."

“The belief in American exceptionalism and the support for our God-given liberties and freedoms continues to be at the core of every American, regardless of what many destructive progressive and socialist-minded Democrats like Debbie Wasserman Schultz will tell you,” Askar stated.

Askar continues, flexing his business "acumen" to make the case for his pro-business approach to legislating, stating that "Washington is broken, and I know how to fix it." It appears as if Askar is going to focus heavily on the current state of the U.S. economy and the affordability issue that appears to saddle everyday Americans.

"Washington is broken, and I know how to fix it. I’m a patriot who loves our country and a business leader with the skills to fix what’s broken in Washington.

Today, I employ thousands of Floridians across the 22nd Congressional district and South Florida.  They’re my extended family.  I worry about the health of their financial futures if we don’t fix the mess in Washington.

Washington is spending its way into debt at a rate of a trillion dollars of debt every 90 days.  That’s unsustainable.   With our debt now exceeding our entire Gross Domestic Product, it adds to the cost of inflation we see at the grocery store, the gas pump, in housing, and pretty much everything else in our economy.

As a business leader, I understand exactly how America’s economy is broken, and I know exactly how to fix it.

I’m running to create a ‘prosperity society’ so we can all share in the American Dream and enjoy the blessings of comfort and prosperity.  If my service in Congress helps provide that for our South Florida families, what greater gift can I give?” —Casey Askar

Askar enters the Republican primary race that already has another businessman, Michael Carbonaro, competing for the nomination.
