Florida Congressman Darren Soto (D) slammed the GOP on social media, attributing the government shutdown to the “GOP Healthcare Crisis.”
“The American people know our cause is just," the Florida Democrat expressed, noting that it's "time to negotiate to stop the [GOP Healthcare Crisis!]”
Soto shared a report by CBS News, detailing the percentage of U.S. adults who wish to see the extension of the Obamacare subsidies and those who want to see them expire. The report uncovers that 78% agree with the extension, while 22% believe that they should expire.
The poll also includes a breakdown of the poll demographics, showing that all demographics, including hardline Democrats and Republicans, want to see the Obamacare subsidies extended past 2025.
Previously, Rep. Kathy Castor (D) has pleaded with the Republican Party to have the Obamacare tax credits extended, citing “skyrocketing health insurance premiums” that only serve to harm the average American and give tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy.
“As a result of Republican inaction, tens of millions of Americans - including 4.1 million Floridians - are beginning to receive notices that their premiums are about to skyrocket," Castor expressed. "While families are stretched thin, President Trump and Congressional Republicans have only made things worse.”
“They are driving up costs with reckless health care and economic policies while handing massive tax breaks to the wealthy and well-connected. Our neighbors deserve better," Castor warned.
This stalemate between the parties has partially fueled the current shutdown on Capitol Hill, with the Republican Party wanting to cut funding to Obamacare tax credits while the Democrats want to boost funding.
