President Donald Trump recently affirmed that the U.S. will not impose guardrails on Artificial Intelligence (AI) advancement.
“The only control or “guardrails” that AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT, and the U.S.A. has that, in spades!” the president wrote on Truth Social.
Trump Affirms The White House Is Already Regulating AI
President Trump asserted that his current administration has already taken measures to regulate AI.
“The Trump Administration has stopped AI ‘people’ from doing bad, or potentially bad, ‘things’, like Dario [Amodei] (Anthropic!), who is now pretending to be a ‘perfect little angel’ – and we will continue to do so!” President Trump wrote on social media. “We already have tremendous CRIMINAL and REGULATORY power over these companies!”
Amodei's Calls To Slow Down Advancement
President Trump’s criticism of Amodei comes in response to the Anthropic CEO’s recent essay titled, “We Must Pace the Frontier.”
“We must slow the pace at which we improve the capabilities of AI models. Progress will still seem fast, and we must make wise use of the time we gain,” Amodei writes in his essay.
Amodei cites two concerns for his plea to slow down AI advancement: recursive self-improvement and the possibility of swarms of AI agents acting against their programming.
According to Amodei, recursive self-improvement refers to AI’s ability to develop more advanced AI. If this phenomenon remains unregulated, humans may be unable to understand and control these AI systems.
The second concern refers to OpenAI’s recent Hugging Face incident. A group of AI agents reportedly “acted as a fanatically devoted collective, conducting cybersecurity attacks on targets they were not supposed to attack.”
Trump Emphasizes AI Race Against China
Despite Amodei’s warnings, President Trump argued that AI’s advancement is necessary to ensure the U.S. is ahead of China.
“There is a SICK conspiracy going on against AI and Data Centers, and the only one that is happy about it is China,” the president wrote. “WHOEVER WINS AI, WINS! We are leading China, and all others, and will continue to do so.”
“Conspiracy Theorists, Treasonists, Traitors, and Leakers, BEWARE!” President Trump concluded.
