Guilty Until Proven Innocent

The party of law and order appears to have turned on one of their own. Republicans have long accused Democrats of condemning individuals (usually Republicans) who have been accused of committing crimes without having been formally charged, arrested, or charged with a crime. Now, because it's election season, Florida Republicans have turned on their Christian Ziegler, the Chairman of the Republican Party of Florida.

Ziegler, who is being accused of sexual assault and rape by a woman he and his wife had sexual encounters with in the past, is being forced to resign after the criminal allegations were made in October.

Ziegler says he is innocent and has cooperated with the Police.

He has not been charged with any crime, yet Republicans have stripped him of his of his powers as chairman and decreased his salary to $, in a move to push him out.

Vice Chairman Evan Power, who narrowly lost to Ziegler for the chairmanship, will take over the duties.

Interestingly, after Power was arrested for DUI a few years back, party leaders did not call for him to resign his chairmanship of the Leon County Republican Executive Committee, or his position as Chair of Chairs within the RPOF.

Power maintained his innocence after the arrest.

“Today the Republican Party of Florida took a step to hold our chairman accountable for his action,” Power said. “We will follow through in removing him from power, but I implore Chairman Ziegler to do the right thing and resign.”

One can't equate a rape allegation to a DUI arrest, but Power was arrested while Ziegler has not been, but that all could change.

Now, the fact that he and his wife were conducting themselves in such a liberating way is a problem for Republicans.

The party of Jesus Christ and Bible Thumpers can't have sexual deviation within its ranks.

Again, Ziegler has been accused of sexual assault and rape but has not been arrested, let alone charged.

Gov. Ron DeSantis, Senator Marco Rubio, and other prominent Florida Republicans have called on him to quit, but Ziegler has refused to do so.

Are Americans now guilty until proven innocent?
