“We are all in for Nikki Haley,” said New Hampshire Governor John Sununu. And just like that the presidential aspirations of both former Gov. Chris Christie and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis spiraled down the proverbial political toilet in the first of the nation presidential primary election.
This was a death blow.
Both Govs DeSantis and Christie campaigned hard and hoped for Gov. Sununu's not of approval, by the moderate and popular, anti-Trump governor, has chosen Amb. Haley.
Upon receiving the endorsement, Ambassador Nikki Haley stated, “It doesn’t get any better than this — to go and get endorsed by the ‘Live Free or Die’ governor is about as rock-solid of an endorsement as we could hope for.”
As it pertains to New Hampshire voters, she is right.
Haley has surged into second place in both New Hampshire and South Carolina, but Govs DeSantis and Christie trail former President Donald Trump by more than 30 percentage points in all the recent public opinion polls that have been conducted.
While this is great news for Amb. Haley, its nothing less than kick to the stomach for DeSantis, who appeared to have been counting on Sununu’s support to distance himself from Haley.
Now, Haley’s campaign may seen itself surging past DeSantis even further.
DeSantis has been focusing the bulk of his campaign efforts in Iowa but has made numerous stops in New Hampshire, but has failed to gain the traction he needs to prevail at this juncture in the 2024 Republican presidential primary race.
The most recent polls taken in New Hampshire show Haley in second behind President Trump, and Christie and DeSantis in third and fourth place, respectively.
Nationally, Trump has opened up his lead by 50 percentage points in both the latest Morning Consult and Reuters polls taken over the past two weeks.
