Campaigning in Iowa

No sooner than Gov. Ron DeSantis kicked off his presidential campaign in Iowa, former President Donald Trump decided to try to rain on his parade by making a trip to Iowa just as DeSantis's trip to the Hawkeye State was concluding.

President Trump landed late Tuesday evening in Des Moines where he appeared on a radio show. Trump will be speaking at a local Republican Party event in Urbandale on Wednesday before being part of a Fox News town hall event.

DeSantis held four events in Sioux City, Council Bluffs, Pella, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and then flew to New Hampshire.

DeSantis will then hold events in South Carolina on Friday before heading back to Iowa on Saturday.

No word on Trump’s travel itinerary for the rest of the week.

The Floridian was on the ground in Iowa covering DeSantis’s events and was present when Trump arrived in Des Moines.

The Floridian will also be in South Carolina on Friday.

The Biden-McCarthy Debt Limit deal papers over America’s problems with unknowable sums of debt, gaslighting reckless inflation-inducing spending for years. As Democrats correctly note, it locks in the radical policy choices they have made. Those choices should be reversed, not cast in cement by Republicans.

The purported policy "wins" are largely cosmetic budget gimmicks or waivable at Biden’s whims. As lawmakers have taken the 72 hours to read this bill, it is no surprise that Republicans moved away from the proposal as Democrats have come to love it evermore. Even the Establishment GOP celebrated "work requirements" being traded for reforms that make the SNAP program more costly for taxpayers and more accessible to the homeless.

We can and must do better.
