As Both Sides Point Fingers Over Debt Ceiling, House Democrat Moskowitz Calls for a Reality Check

As both Democrats and Republicans continue to point fingers concerning the country’s inability to solve the debt ceiling problem, some of those closer to the political center of the aisle are getting more realistic when it comes to who’s really at fault. Representative Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) believes that both sides need to come together at the negotiating table in order to pay the bills.

Or else, “China wins.”

"The American people want us to be responsible with spending, but they also know we have to pay our bills for money already spent, just like families do every month. If we default, we do so together, not as Dems or Republicans but as Americans - and then China wins," said Rep. Moskowitz.

Despite calling for both sides to lay down their pride and come together for the American people, Rep. Moskowitz couldn’t help but throw a jab of his own across the aisle.

"It's nice to see my Republican colleagues all the sudden care about spending. When President Trump was in charge, they racked up more debt in those four years than any other single-term President. It seems they only care about spending when there's a Democrat in charge," stated Moskowitz.

However, Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) still believes that Republicans in the House have already done “their job.”

“[House Republicans] did OUR job. We passed the Limit Save Grow Act WEEKS ago while Biden & Schumer did NOTHING for 5 months. Our fiscal future is on the line & Democrats not only refused to draft a plan but also refused to negotiate for months. The reality is our plan is the ONLY plan,” said Rep. Donalds.

But Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL) is not of the same opinion. She believes it is “MAGA Republicans” who are holding up negotiations.

“Putting food on the table is not up for political debate. Instead of hostage-taking, MAGA Republicans need to help prevent a default on our debt,” tweeted Rep. Cherfilus-McCormick.

No matter which side is right or wrong, if the U.S. defaults and Moskowitz’s analysis is correct, then nobody wins.

China would.

The United States has a little over a week to pay its bills as the last day to figure out a solution could be as early as June 1st, according to USA Today.
