Quiet Little City of Surfside Devastated After Building Collapse

Officials may not know for a very long time what actually caused the collapse of the Champlain Tower in Surfside, Florida that left 1 confirmed fatality and 99 others unaccountable.

The scene was horrific. People can be heard banging from underneath the rubble.

Search & Rescue is all that is on everyone’s mind. Gov. Ron DeSantis, along with Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nunez, CFO Jimmy Patronis, Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, Sen. Lauren Book, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Rene GarciaSen. Jason Pizzo, and many other local officials were on hand to access the damage.

Gov. DeSantis signed an Executive Order to help provide assistance to the City of Surfside, a predominantly Jewish-America city situated next to Bal Harbour.

Ron DeSantis @GovRonDeSantis-Thank you to the first responders who have been working tirelessly to save lives in Surfside. Your selfless actions are bringing comfort in a time of pain for the South Florida community.

Jimmy Patronis @JimmyPatronis-In the midst of this tragedy, I have personally witnessed the BEST of what humanity has to offer. Our fire fighters have been working since early in the morning to save lives - and now the search is going into the evening. Their courage is inspiring.

Lauren Book @Book4Senate-Devastating scene in #Surfside today - I came to lend support and meet with families and friends of loved ones still missing. There are many lives that will be destroyed by this, but there’s some comfort in knowing that true public servants like @senpizzo serve this community.

Jason Pizzo @senpizzo-I’m with our brave men and women of @MiamiDadeFire /@miamidadepd who are still trying to rescue and recover through the night.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz @DWStweets-My prayers are with Surfside as rescuers from across South Florida work tirelessly to locate and save residents. While details are still emerging, we pray that the casualties are limited and first responders are safe as they address this horrific collapse.

Daniella Levine Cava @MayorDaniella-We’re praying for every single family affected by this tragedy, and for all the first responders putting their lives on the line as the search continues into the night

René García @SenReneGarcia-Seeing our police and fire rescue in action today reassured me that our community is in extremely capable hands. On behalf of the families affected today, a heartfelt thank you to our urban search and rescue team. God bless you all.

Jeanette Nunez @LtGovNunez-"It really is tragic. I was on the scene earlier today and what you see there, pictures and the TV doesn't do it justice. It is absolutely devastating. We know that at least 99 are unaccounted for at this time…
