The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced this week that the city of Orlando will host an Olympic Q-Series, also known as an Olympic Qualifier Series, at Camping World Stadium in early June 2028.

According to an IOC release, the qualifier will feature climbing, skateboarding, BMX freestyle, beach volleyball, and 3x3 basketball for a chance to compete at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

U.S. Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) celebrated the announcement on social media, indicating the City's host will boost Florida's economy.

"For Floridians, this will mean a boost in jobs, tourism, and a global spotlight on the Sunshine State. For athletes, they’re getting to compete in the most beautiful state in the union," Scott wrote.

Sen. Scott added it was "fantastic news" for Florida.

"Florida leads the way in athletic excellence," Scott said.

Other Q-Series cities include Tokyo, Japan; Shanghai, China; and Montreal, Canada.

"The goal of the Q-series is to boost athlete visibility and global fan engagement," IOC President Kirsty Coventry said. "It is an exciting global event on the road to the LA28 Olympic Games. It's one format, four spots, six sports."

The dates scheduled are as follows:

Tokyo: May 4-7 2028

Shanghai: May 11-14 2028

Montreal: June 1-4 2028

Orlando: June 8-11 2028

The United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee, Orlando Local Organizing Committee, and Greater Orlando Sports Commission all participated in the bidding process with the IOC.

“We congratulate Orlando for building on a proud sport heritage by being selected to host the final Olympic Q-Series 2028 stop on the road to LA28,” United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee CEO Sarah Hirshland said. “The vision put forward by the community not only celebrates the outstanding athletes and competition, it invites all who love sport to come together to experience the magic of the Olympic Movement. We’re thrilled for our partners in Orlando and know it will be a great event.”

The 2028 Summer Olympics are scheduled to take place from June 14 to June 30.
