President Donald Trump has announced the formation of a White House Task Force for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. The task force includes several prominent Republicans to coordinate federal preparations for the Olympic Games, which are set to begin in July of that year.
Trump issued an executive order establishing the task force on Tuesday. He will serve as chair, while Vice President J.D. Vance will serve as vice chair.
"The United States will host the 2028 Summer Olympics, one of the most prominent international sports events of the 21st century," the Executive Order said.
"This extraordinary occasion offers a powerful opportunity to showcase American strength, pride, and patriotism while welcoming the world to our shores," it continued. "The Federal Government will lead a unified effort to ensure maximum safety, secure borders, and world-class transportation for millions of visitors throughout the 2028 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games (Games)."
The task force includes a pair of native Floridians in White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Wiles was also just honored as the Florida GOP’s Statesman of the Year.
Other members include Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, FBI Director Kash Patel, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, and others.
According to the executive order, the task force will coordinate planning and response to the security, transportation, and entry/exit processes for the Summer Games. It will also provide support and share information with local authorities for the event, as well as identify legal, logistical, or regulatory barriers that could obstruct federal support.
In addition, the task force will assist in visa processing and credentialing programs for foreign athletes, coaches, officials, and media personnel, as well as ensure preparedness for potential terrorist activity.
