Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) shared he's willing to provide Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier with a "mountain of evidence" to assist in potential prosecution of Dr. Anthony Fauci over his handling of the coronavirus pandemic while speaking on The Benny Show with conservative personality Benny Johnson this week.
"I don't know right offhand what the state charges would be. We're open to cooperating," Paul said. "We have a mountain of evidence, and we're more than willing to share it with people who wish."
Sen. Paul added he's "happy to share our information with anybody," including Attorney General Uthmeier for possible violations. Dr. Fauci, was the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and Chief Medical Advisor to President Joe Biden during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which lasted from March 2020 to May 2023.
Dr. Fauci was also a key member of the Covid-19 task force under President Donald Trump.
"We've been sharing most of it, frankly, with the public. We've been putting as much out there as possible so people can make up their own mind," Paul added.
Attorney General Uthmeier announced an investigation into Fauci over his handling of the pandemic on Wednesday.
"Fauci's lack of candor to Congress is unbelievable," Uthmeier wrote. "My office is launching an investigation into Dr. Fauci. It's past time we get the truth of what happened during COVID."
Attorney General Uthmeier spoke to Johnson about the investigation following the announcement.
"We're going to send a plane up to D.C. and get any file they're willing to share with us," Uthmeier said. "Look forward to working with Senator Rand Paul, I know he's eager to find accountability, and then we'll have subpoenas out likely as early as next week looking into what Dr. Fauci knew, when he knew it, all of the statements and directives he made."
A public face to pandemic response over both presidential terms, Fauci repeatedly invoked his Fifth Amendment right when probed by Congress on Capitol Hill this week over the origins of the Covid-19 pandemic, which killed over 1.2 million people in the United States alone. Moreover, Sen. Rick Scott ripped Fauci for destroying the federal government's credibility on public health.
"Most of the things that we had looked at that we believed were breaking a federal law, were destroying records, which is a federal law, lying to Congress, which is a federal law, and now what we're contemplating is sending a referral to the Department of Justice for obstruction of a congressional investigations, those are very federal," Paul said.
With Uthmeier and the state of Florida now getting involved, Fauci's problems may be far from over.
