Coral Gables City Commission candidate Nestor Menendez announced this week that he has received strong first-quarter fundraising results in his first-time bid for a Group IV seat on the city commission.

“I am truly thankful for the support of Coral Gables residents who have rallied behind this campaign,” Nestor Menendez said in a release. “This city means so much to my family and me, and I am humbled by the strong support of friends and neighbors throughout the community. That trust strengthens my resolve to represent every resident with integrity and dedication.”

According to the release, Menendez brings a "strong commitment to public service and civic engagement" to the race for the city commission in Coral Gables, which is located about five miles southwest of Miami in Miami-Dade County.

Menendez also brings city experience to the position, having served on the Planning & Zoning Board, the Transportation Advisory Board, and the Charter Review Committee.

In addition, he described himself as being known for his "collaborative approach and resident-focused leadership," with a commitment to "responsible growth, clear communication, and preserving a safe, livable, and family-focused Coral Gables."

"Nestor Menendez is running for Coral Gables Commissioner with a clear mission: restore civility at City Hall, put families and residents first, and strengthen the community values that make Coral Gables the City Beautiful," he wrote on his campaign website.

The Coral Gables City Commission currently consists of Mayor Vince Lago, Vice Mayor Rhonda Anderson, Melissa Castro, Ariel Fernandez, and Richard D. Lara.

Coral Gables municipal elections are set for April 2027. However, city voters will decide this April on a proposed charter referendum to shift the elections to November 2026 to align its election with the statewide general election calendar in an effort to boost voter turnout.
