General Mike Flynn (Ret.), a longtime ally of President Donald Trump, has officially endorsed Casey Askar in the 22nd Congressional District Republican primary.
"Embodies the American Dream"
In a statement announcing his endorsement, Gen. Flynn lauded Askar as a man who "embodies the American Dream," describing Askar's flight from Iraq as a child to escape religious persecution and serving in the Marine Corps.
"He understands firsthand that freedom is never guaranteed; it is earned, protected, and defended," Gen. Flynn continued, further describing how Askar "represents the values that have made America the greatest nation on Earth: faith, family, freedom, personal responsibility, and service before self."
Moreover, the former General said that "the people of Florida's newly drawn 22nd Congressional District deserve a representative who understands both South Florida's values and the concerns of families and businesses across the district. America faces enormous challenges. Casey Askar has shown throughout his life that he is willing to serve something greater than himself."
"I am confident Casey will stand alongside President Donald J. Trump and fight to secure our borders, rebuild our economy, support our law enforcement officers, defend our constitutional rights, and ensure America remains the strongest nation in the world," Flynn concluded. "If you live in Florida's 22nd Congressional District, I encourage you to support Casey Askar on August 18th in the Republican Primary."
A Game Changer?
Askar's star has been on the rise in the primary, and he has received numerous endorsements from prominent conservative groups and figures, such as the Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC), which is itself considered a big deal, and the seal of approval from Florida Senate President Kathleen Passidomo (R-28), Representative Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), and Collier County Sheriff Kevin Rambosk.
With a week left and President Donald Trump still not having given his coveted blessing, will getting the endorsement of one of Trump's top allies be what gets Askar over the finish line?
