The Associated Industries of Florida (AIF) announced its endorsement of Republican Anthony Bonna for House District 85 in a press statement this week.
“From helping deliver tax relief and economic growth in Port St. Lucie to advocating for policies that support small businesses and job creators, Anthony understands what it takes to keep Florida competitive and prosperous,” AIF President and CEO Brewster Bevis said.
"Throughout his service to his community, Anthony has demonstrated a commitment to responsible leadership and a pro-business approach that will help create opportunities for Florida families and employers alike. Associated Industries of Florida is proud to endorse Anthony Bonna for Florida House District 85," Bevis concluded.
HD 85 serves part of northern Martin County and southern St. Lucie County on Florida's Treasure Coast. Rep. Tobin "Toby" Overdorf (R-Palm City) currently represents HD 85 but cannot seek reelection due to term limits.
Known as "The Voice of Florida Business," the AIF has represented the principles of prosperity and free enterprise before the three branches of state government since 1920. It was also founded to promote an economic environment in the state "conducive to the growth, development, and welfare of industry and business and the people of the state."
Bonna is a member of the Port St. Lucie City Council. He graduated from Georgetown University with a degree in finance in 2009.
He thanked the AIF for its endorsement.
“I’m honored to receive the endorsement of the Associated Industries of Florida,” Bonna said. “Florida’s business community is the driving force behind our state’s economic success. I’m committed to supporting policies that cut red tape, create jobs and foster innovation to ensure Florida remains a state where families and businesses can thrive. I look forward to partnering with AIF to promote economic prosperity in Florida and protect our common-sense values.”
Thomas L. Colter is also running in the HD 85 Republican primary. Wayne Richter is on the Democratic ticket.
Rep. Overdorf last won the seat with 57% of the vote in 2024.
The AIF has also made several other endorsements, including for Republican Ryan Gill for House District 68 earlier this year.
