in a recent appearance on Fox News's Life, Liberty, Levin, Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) discussed the unfolding events in Iran, saying they were "a long time coming" because of their own policies.
Gov. DeSantis suggested that, prior to 1979, "the U.S. had a very reliable ally in Iran with the Shah, and Jimmy Carter was President at the time, and he basically turned his back on the Shah and helped usher the Ayatollah Khomeini into power."
From there, Gov. DeSantis reiterated that Iran has been a significant state sponsor of terror in the Middle East ever since, "more than any other country, more than any other entity."
Speaking from experience as a veteran of the Iraq War, DeSantis recalled "seeing the reports coming in, and although there was a lot of fodder about Sunni Arab jihadists, and there were some, most of the casualties in the time I was there were [caused by] Iranian-backed militias."
He reminded that "they believe America is the 'Great Satan'," calling President Donald Trump's June attack on Iran's nuclear facilities "the right thing to do."
The Florida governor further suggested that Trump will "follow through" on his support for the protesters currently taking to the streets of Iran. DeSantis argued, "I do not think this is a regime where you can do a credible deal with that. It is just not how they operate. There is no way you can negotiate your way out of the fact that ultimately, this is a regime pledged to Islamic jihad." "So this has been a long time coming," DeSantis concluded.
Last Thursday, during the Board of Peace event, President Trump stated that he would decide on taking military action against Iran within the next ten days if a "meaningful deal" cannot be reached.
"Good talks are being had. It's proven to be, over the years, not easy to make a meaningful deal with Iran," said Trump. "We have to make a meaningful deal; otherwise, bad things happen, but we have to make a meaningful deal."
