"Why wait for a special session in Spring?"
That is what Florida State Senator Jason Pizzo (I) told The Floridian when asked about Governor Ron DeSantis saying that he would call for a special session on redistricting in the Spring of 2026.
Sen. Pizzo, who has flirted with the idea of running for governor in the 2026 midterm election, appears to favor the redrawing of Florida's congressional districts, a move the former Democratic lawmaker could be closely watching as he continues to mull over his political future.
Pizzo, who left the Democratic Party last year, is term-limited out in 2026 and could be considering another run for public office.
Could Pizzo run for Congress in Florida's 23 Congressional District in 2026?
Congressman Pizzo?
Probably not, but then there is the 2028 cycle.
Pizzo dismissed running for the House of Representatives, but still shows curiosity about possibly heading to Washington.
"Would the party back me?" asked Pizzo.
The answer: Yes
Why wouldn't they back Pizzo in a congressional run?
Besides the fact that he could self-fund a congressional campaign, Pizzo, who lives in Rep. Jared Moskowitz's (D) district, checks off all the boxes that appeal to today's American electorate.
Rep. Moskowitz, a centrist Democrat, may not want to run for reelection in 2028, so the door could be wide open for Pizzo and his golf clubs to walk right in the halls of Congress.
Meanwhile, in response to Gov. DeSantis' call for a special session on redistricting, Speaker Danny Perez (R) reaffirmed his commitment to redrawing Florida's congressional line during the upcoming legislative session.
Speaker Perez has already put together a special House committee dedicated to redistricting that will meet twice in the next week, and possibly at the end of the month.
