Representative Maxwell Frost (D-FL) is announcing that a new passport application office is being built in Orlando after years of demanding a second location in Florida.
As we covered last May, Rep. Frost described how the Miami Passport Agency in Miami is the sole passport application office in the entire state, putting it too far away for many Floridians to visit, on top of being appointment-only and having a short daily operation window.
"Our office was overwhelmed with passport requests last year, and while we are always ready to help, we know that establishing a new passport office here in Central Florida would be a game-changer for Central and North Florida residents in need of passport assistance," Rep. Frost said at the time, adding, "Expecting working Central Floridians to travel eight hours or more to Miami during the workweek is unrealistic. As we gear up for one of the busiest travel seasons, we must ensure that every American and Floridian is able to apply for or renew their passport in an easy and effective way."
And now that game-changer has finally arrived, the Florida Congressman is happy to announce.
The State Department has obtained a lease for 5520 Gatlin Avenue in Orlando, just north of the Orlando International Airport, and is expected to open in summer 2027.
"For years, Floridians have shared how frustrating and costly it is to travel to Miami for urgent passport services, and since day one, my office has been working to address those concerns," said Frost in his new press release, adding, "We worked through the gridlock and chaos in Washington to deliver a solution, and today's announcement of the location for the Orlando passport office puts us one step closer to finally making these services accessible to our community."
"Starting in 2027, this new location will save families the time, stress, and cost of an eight-hour round trip to Miami by bringing this vital service closer to home for folks right here in Orlando, but also across the Sunshine State and the Southeast," the Congressman concluded.
