Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson stated that he would not hold a House vote on whether the Justice Department should release files related to the accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, retreating from his demand last week that the material must come out.

MAGA has been demanding the release of the files since Jeffrey Epstein’s arrest in 2019, with many claiming the files would reveal a list of associates Epstein had ties to.

However, President Donald Trump has walked back his promise of releasing the files, claiming that the files “never existed,” and Johnson stated, “We need the administration to have the space to do what it is doing.”

Since the Trump administration refused to release the files, both Trump supporters and Democrats have expressed their frustration and anger, demanding to know why Trump is covering up the situation.

Florida Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D) has released various statements calling out Trump’s cover-up and criticizing the refusal to release the files.

“First, Republicans let billionaire Elon Musk go through Americans’ private data. Then they give massive tax breaks to billionaires. Now they’re hiding the Epstein files to protect wealthy abusers. Republicans serve the rich, NOT the American people,” she said.

In response to Johnson refraining from holding a House vote, Rep. Wasserman Schultz said, “Trump’s Epstein coverup runs through Speaker Johnson’s office.”

On the other end of the political spectrum, Kentucky Representative Thomas Massie (R), a staunch critic of President Trump, has introduced the bipartisan Epstein Files Transparency Act (EFTA), which would force the House of Representatives to vote on the complete release of the government's files related to Jeffrey Epstein.

In an attempt to alleviate the unrest within his party, Trump has ordered Attorney General Pam Bondi to release the grand jury testimony related to Jeffrey Epstein’s case.
