Following the stunning upset in the Democratic U.S. Senate Primary by Democratic Socialist and Florida House Rep. Angie Nixon (D-Jacksonville), President Donald Trump celebrated retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman’s loss.
“The most gratifying loss last night was that of a real treasonous creep, Alex Vindman, to a Radical Left Lunatic, who can’t speak or think properly, and who will go down to certain defeat at the hands of Ashley Moody, a truly Fantastic Senator, from the Great State Florida,” President Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Vindman's Whistle Blow Against President Trump
President Trump’s gripe with Vindman stems from the Democratic challenger’s time as Director for European Affairs for the U.S. National Security Council during President Trump’s first term.
The former White House national security aide gained prominence after testifying before Congress about President Trump’s 2019 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during an impeachment inquiry on the President.
President Trump’s impeachment hearings derived from allegations that the president pressured Ukraine to probe then-presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden. President Trump allegedly threatened to withhold military aid necessary to resist Russian aggression during the phone call.
Trump Calls For Vindman's Prosecution
“Vindman, if you remember, was the one who lied about my 'Perfect Call' with President Zelenskyy of Ukraine, only to find out that the conversation was routinely recorded and proved that I was 100% in the right (Completely Innocent!),” President Trump wrote. “It was, indeed, a Perfect Call, and the Dumocrats Fake Impeachment effort massively failed. Vindman should be prosecuted for what he did!"
Moody's Upper Hand in the General
Rep. Nixon will now face off against Gov. Ron DeSantis-appointed Sen. Moody, who’s served as Florida senator since Secretary of State Marco Rubio left the position to serve in the President’s Cabinet.
Moody, who won nearly 80% of the vote in the recent Republican primary, appears to have a leg up against Nixon, given the state’s Republican stronghold and the President’s endorsement.
