A new Florida International University (FIU) poll shows that 68% of registered Cuban voters would vote for the Republican runner-up in their congressional district, an outstanding figure amid the Republican Party’s average nationwide favorability score of 37.7%.
The FIU Cuba Poll 2026 focuses on South Floridian Cuban Americans’ views on current issues such as U.S. foreign policy, including Cuba and Iran, the Trump administration’s immigration policy, and the upcoming 2026 midterm elections.
Views On Immigration Policy
According to the poll, 67% of respondents disapprove of the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown on Cuban nationals with no criminal record.
Additionally, 85% of them believe the government should resume processing immigration benefits for nationals already in the country.
The Trump administration’s deportation efforts have amassed increased backlash within the Cuban community in South Florida, as several migrants have been relocated to detention centers in the Central African Republic.
Cuban men and women who have been deported to the Central African Republic spoke today at a press conference we organized. They were dumped there by the U.S. government like cattle, with zero support, and have been left forgotten. https://t.co/Ys6QK8ASlA

Trump Admin's Pressure Campaign on Cuba
Regarding the Trump administration’s pressure campaign on the Communist island, 77% of respondents approve of the effort and support continued pressure.
Of the nearly 1,000 respondents, 73% champion U.S. military intervention to overthrow the Cuban regime.
The poll follows the United Nations (UN) General Assembly’s recent vote on a resolution to end the U.S.-imposed embargo on Cuba.
On Oct. 28, 2026, the Assembly voted 130 to 17, with 25 abstentions, on the non-binding resolution to end the economic embargo.
The resolution’s results mark the fewest favorable votes since 1995.
The resolution lost 35 favorable votes compared to 2025, gained 10 additional “against” votes, and received 13 more “abstentions.”
Today nearly triple the number of nations voted no, abstained, or just chose not to vote—turning their back on Havana’s sham resolution at the UN.
More work to do, but the world is starting to push back on Cuban regime propaganda as their corruption and oppression is exposed. Cuba Libre!

Republicans Favored In Statewide Elections
With less than a week until the 2026 midterms, Cuban Americans also expressed higher support for statewide Republican challengers.
Sen. Ashley Moody received 51% support among respondents who named a candidate in the Senate race compared to Angie Nixon’s 26%.
Congressman Byron Donalds leads by more than double, with 60% support among respondents who named a choice for governor compared with David Jolly’s 24%.
