Fried Expected to Announce Run for Governor

Share

With the 2022 election season just around the corner, the much anticipated gubernatorial campaign of Commissioner of Agriculture Nikki Fried (D-FL) , is expected to launch on June 1, 2021.

Fried posted a video to Twitter touting her accomplishment of being the only statewide elected Democrat in Florida since 2012.

The video included narration that described Fried as, "The new face of the party," and, "The party's last hope."

Fried called on, "Democrats, Independents, and Republicans" in order to help with her, "vision of what we want our state to look like." :

"What our state needs, is leader in Tallahassee, who are going to listen to the will of the people, to unite us, to remind us why we are Americans, to remind us why we are Americans, to remind us what we fight for, Democracy and the power that we have when we vote."

As the only Democrat in the entire cabinet, Fried didn't fail to get her DeSantis jab in, calling the governor an "Authoritarian dictator."

With a very long track record of political success, Florida Democrats see Fried as a viable challenger to Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL), who she has infamously been critical of by calling bills he endorsed as Jim Crow Laws and comparing him to dictators among the likes of Fidel Castro.

Fried can also be seen calling for DeSantis to be a "one-term governor," furthering the speculation that she intends to run against him next year.

However, with some early data already out, a DeSantis second term looks more than likely.

Charlie Crist, who is running for the third time for governor, has already established himself as a candidate and is currently the favorite with 53% party support, and Fried is only at 17%, according to Victory Insights Polling.

Nevertheless, this video can only lead us to believe Fried will announce her run for governor very early next month.  The primary should be bruising between Crist, Fried, and potentially Rep. Val Demings (D-FL), however, Fried is expected to excite the progressive wing of her party.
