Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis wasn’t taking any chances after the recent cyberattack against the nation’s largest fuel pipeline and has signed an executive order placing that state in a state of emergency.
The Colonial Pipeline, which provides about 45% of the total amount of the fuel consumed in Florida and other eastern states, has been compromised by hackers.
The declaration caused a significant gas shortage in the state as thousands of Floridians scrambled to fill up any and all gas tanks they could get their hands on. Tuesday’s long lines at the gas pumps were eerily reminiscent of actions taken as a hurricane approaches the Florida coast.
Florida Senator Marco Rubio believes that these types of ransom attacks will not end anytime soon.
"These ransom hacks aren’t going to stop. We need to provide Americans & their businesses more information on how to protect themselves. These criminals are disrupting our lives and draining our economy of billions of dollars," stated Sen. Rubio.
