U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) is dead at the age of 71. Sen. Graham's office announced on social media that the veteran lawmaker died of a "brief and sudden illness."
“Senator Graham’s family appreciates prayers at this time and asks for privacy during this incredibly difficult period,” the statement said.
Sen. Graham's death is a blow to the Republican majority in the upper chamber, and further casts President Donald Trump's Save America Act into doubt.
Graham, unquestionable supporter of Israel, has just returned from a trip to Kiev, Ukraine.
