The Department of Justice (DOJ) recently announced the arrest of nearly 50 foreign nationals involved in election fraud crimes, including six legal residents in Florida.

“The Justice Department announced charges involving 48 aliens in Pennsylvania, California, Florida, New York, and Nevada in connection with illegal voting, fraudulent voter registration, and related election crimes,” a DOJ spokesperson announced. “The cases include voting by aliens in federal elections and false claims of U.S. citizenship to register to vote.”

In Florida, the DOJ apprehended two Cubans, an Ecuadorian, two Canadians, and one Brazilian national, all with legal permanent status.

All six individuals allegedly illegally participated in federal elections, including the 2022 midterm and 2024 presidential elections.

The arrests come amid early voting for the upcoming 2026 midterm elections.

Anna Paulina Luna Criticizes Election Fraud Deniers

Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) reacted to the announcement, scrutinizing public appeals that election fraud is a myth.

SAVE America Act

The DOJ's announcement poses the question as to whether election integrity measures such as the SAVE AMERICA Act should continue to be debated in Congress.

According to a POLITICO poll from May 2026, more than half of Americans support proof of citizenship requirements to vote.

The bill, however, has failed in the U.S. Senate.

Opponents of the bill have argued that it would "impose unnecessary and burdensome documentation requirements that many eligible voters may not readily have access to, while also undermining voter registration efforts that are critical for reaching historically marginalized communities."

Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) has been a staunch advocate for the federal bill, using his platform on X to consistently draw support for the legislation.
